What is an Anxiety Disorder?
While occasional anxiety can happen before speaking in front of a group or when entering a job interview, an anxiety disorder is defined as a persistent feeling of worry or sometimes panic that does not go away. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) used by mental health professionals to diagnose psychiatric disorders lists six major anxiety disorders: Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the most common. Followed by Social Anxiety (increased anxiety and fear in social situations that goes beyond usual shyness), Panic Disorder, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and specific phobia are other types of anxiety that many people face.
Symptoms of a Generalized Anxiety Disorder:
- Excessive worry
- Irritability
- Trouble sleeping
- Trouble concentrating
- Overthinking
- Digestive upset
- Headache
- Pain in neck and back areas

Symptoms of Panic Attacks:
